Abstract
This presentation explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping global security—both as a powerful tool and a potential threat. It explains the basics of AI, machine learning, and deep learning before examining how these technologies could be misused by terrorist groups. We highlight three main threat areas: cyberattacks like phishing and ransomware, physical dangers tied to connected devices and drones, and political risks such as deepfakes and misinformation. Considering recent trends, developments, and the potential in the field of AI, the question therefore, is not if – but when – AI will become another instrument in the toolbox of terrorism. The presentation ends by calling for global collaboration, ethical AI practices, and stronger safeguards to stay ahead of future threats.
